FROM HAPPY CAMPER LIZ

LUVERLY place to stay and you can camp in a tent or campavan under the trees at the top of the cliffs. A short walk and you are at the beach with the hole in the cliff. Just stunning. A truly wonderful place to spend some time and good facilities too.

We spent 2 nights here as a group of 6 families on the new abbeyfield e/h pitches. Fantastic large flat pitches around the edge though the ones in the centre were on a slope. Facilities are plentiful and clean. The wildlife is mostly crows who like the tall trees in the wooded camping area. Very noisy first thing but after that no problem. Durdle door is a short walk as is lulworth cove, the coastline here is fabulous but no sand. We will definitely be back for a longer stay.

I stayed at Durdle Door Caravan Park a few times in the mid to late 70's (between ages of 5 years old and 9 years old approximately with parents and brother). I had very many happy memories staying in the static caravans and the gorgeous walks up to the beach, Swimming in the sea and getting up near that arch gave me such joy! We used to do a lot of walking and walked to a valley with lots of rocks all over it? Anyone know what this was called? We also used to walk up to a little hill on another hill - I used to call it "The Pimple on the Hill". It actually was featured in a a Kate Bush video - "Running up the Hill" I think? Anyone know what this little hill was called and exact location? I have some photos of the static caravans and my Dad has old cine film but I don't have scanner to upload on here! I am hoping to re-visit one of my treasured childhood holiday destinations.
