Hi everyone... Well, we just got back after spending the weekend in Battle, East Sussex at the Senlac Wood Campsite. 9 of us (girls and boys) booked and after spending 7hours stuck on thA13 in Essex, we finally bowled in at almost 8PM..(you guessed it!!) We got thoroughly soaked trying to erect our tents. Still, with undampened spirits and damp clothes we successfully managed to set out everything and because of the rain we went out for fish and chips ...Yum Yum... Off to the Camp Bar we trotted in high spirits and spent a couple of hours playing pool and drinking lots.(It's a very basic bar with no draught beer but plenty of cold cans, spirits and wine at reasonable prices)(No food ) Saturday morning we awoke to the sound of the free range chickens on the site and cooked a hearty breakfast.. Spent all day just enjoying the camp with games and all sorts. This is such a relaxed site, all the staff treat you as if you are a friend, and really are the most lovely people. Other campers we hardly saw, such is the clever lay out of the split level fields and the many little clearings in the mass of woodland in and around the site. Lots of old fashioned caravans dotted around(not sure if they can be rented) good, clean hot showers and wash area, nice little provision shop in the reception. We'll be returning..PS; If it's raining, avoid pitches 17, 18 and 19, It was like the Somme. THANKS TO JONNY BANJO ON THE FORUM XX

Hi we have just returned from senlac wood campsite in catsfield sussex, what a truly lovely place its back to basics woodland camping, this site is in split levels which makes you feel like your the only ones there, they have clearings where we were held four caravans the others had from six to eight caravans all surrounded by trees, each clearing had its own woodland pathway leading to the toilet and shower block which was very clean and warm as the heating was on full day and night, being may there was a carpet of bluebells right through the woods, there were some lovely wooded walks i have two dogs and they loved it at night the pathways through the wood are lit up by tiny lamps, there is a small rustic play area all made from the wood in the forest and a log cabin that is the bar area we were there may bank holiday so they had a singer in the bar on saturday night he was very good 60s and 70s music, there is also a small shop which sells the basics like milk bread and tinned foods no papers which would have been nice, the tenting area is a little further in the wood and looked very nice some pitches looked slightly sloping but nothing to drastic, before we arrived on friday 2nd may it had been raining for over a week so the ground was a bit waterlogged and my mum and dad did get there caravan stuck but without asking one of the staff came and pulled it out with a tractor but by the next day it had dried up nicely, all in all a fantastic site with friendly staff and birdsong 24hrs a day what more could you ask for. THANKS TO JACKIE

Our children enjoyed the play area here and all the kids wanted to play on the rope swing hanging from the tree next to our tent. I liked the sheltered pitch. The shop sells nothing much of any practical use (some old books and sweets) so pack your milk, bread and gas beforehand.
