We have just stayed at Hayles Fruit Farm. True they do let you have campfires. This is what we all seem to be looking for, a back to nature site. Only let down by the fact that hard standings had been put in using ground up old tarmac! Completely ruining the feel and look of the place. Surely it would not have cost the earth to use a slightly more attractive material that was in keeping? Additionally the pitch we stayed on was contaminated by a lot of old engine oil (I think) that made a real mess.

A beautiful family campsite in peaceful surroundings. Great for kids - lots of spce to run about and places to explore, particularly around the stunning lake. Of course, the fact that you are allowed campfires on this site is a big attraction, and on the 2 occasions that we have camped here we have found plenty of firewood conveniently cut up and piled around the edges of the site. The site has a brilliant farm shop, with lovely local food - we recommend the Badgers Bottom cider, brewed on the site! There is a great cafe too with lovely breakfasts. You can finish your stay with a trip to the fruit farm, also on site. Lovely fruit picking if you go at the right time of year.

I have just called this campsite with a view to going last week end in May with another family. I was told that there is nothing for the children to do there, and when I suggested that they would just run around the fields and enjoy the countryside, I was told "as long as they don't get into mischief!" Not a very warm welcome. Mmm, don't think I'll be booking that one!

A great place to relax and enjoy a campfire!!! The staff were very nice, a fantastic little shop where you can either grab a few bits (milk, eggs etc) or sit in at the cafe. Will definitely go back!

Really disappointing, there were over 100 people on site but only two toilets. The ability to have a fire was a good point but the lack of facilities were the overriding factor. There were no washing up facilities either. Good base for walking, bad base for camping!

Just returned from a great weekend at Hayles. Code entry to toilets for security. Cooked all my meals on open fire, a relaxed easy going site set in lovely countryside, real back to nature camping

I stayed here for one night only so I can only give a review based on that. The site is set in a meadow surrounded by trees and lovely views all round, with caravans, campervans and tents. Hard standings available. Two portaloos and a shower/loo portakabin arrangement with separate facilities for men and women (1 shower etc each side). The site is in deep countryside, there is an excellent farm shop stocking pretty much everything you might need next to the meadow and a PYO fruit farm, and a small restaurant which does a cracking campers breakfast. Everything is clean and tidy - it is well managed. There is a lovely atmosphere, I will certainly use again next time I am in the area - a stress free zone in beautiful surroundings.

Stayed at site 7/8 August 2010. Nice relaxed site, no fixed pitches, no additional charges for gazeebos etc. Had to buy firewood as couldn't scavenge enough from hedgerows. Toilets are very basic (1 toilet and tiny sink plus one shower in the ladies) and there are no washing up facilities but as long as you know that before you turn up it's a great site for a couple of days camping. Farm shop is great but breakfast in cafe was nothing special.
