The site is small, quiet, friendly and undeveloped, on a sheep farm, in a level field with beautiful views all round. The Howgill Fells begin just up the lane for walking and mountain biking.

In Ravenstonedale village (a short walk away) are 2 country pubs serving meals, a village grocery shop, public tennis court, 9/18 hole golf course, and a small art gallery. There are plenty of interesting local walks and rides. Nearby you can also go pony trekking or trout fishing - catch one and barbeque it later (the trout not the pony!)

There is good access to the Eden Valley, the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales but none of the hustle and bustle... Camping as it used to be!

We adored this traditional and friendly campsite in the Yorkshire Dales. The web advert described it as 'camping as it used to be' and it was exactly that.

We stayed for a couple of nights in late-July and enjoyed views of dry-stone walls, lots of sheep, rolling hills and bigger peaks. We bought logs from the farmer to build a roaring campfire (fire pits are provided) and toasted our marshmallows and our toes in our little circle of four tents all alone - it seems this site is largely undiscovered.

Although the site is remote and unspoilt, facilities are good. Unlimited hot showers and civilised washing-up facilities are provided by the (very clean) static caravan near the farmhouse. The caravan also has a comfortable lounge area, which we gathered in at one point as somewhere dry to spread our maps out.

There are plenty of really nice walks in the area: we went up The Calf which was beautiful and ample justification for indulging in a big meal in the local pub. The village of Ravenstonedale is a short walk through the fields or a very short drive away. It has a tiny shop selling everything and a pub, The Black Swan, which serves good beer (including both Black Sheep Bitter and Black Sheep Ale!), and big portions of remarkably delicious food.

If, like us, you prefer to camp away from screaming children, loud radios and ranks of ugly caravans, and enjoy a real campfire, the company of your friends, plenty of beer and space to throw a frisbee, Low Greenside is a perfect choice.

THANKS TO Amanda, Mark and Dazzle FOR THE TIPOFF! LOVE THE HC'S

We had an absolutely fantastic weekend at this campsite. The location is excellent with views in all directions and a very short walk to the lovely village of Ravenstonedale where there are a couple of good and reasonable value pubs. The location is excellent for walking and is surrounded by open access land, so you can pretty much just head off in any direction that you feel like! The campsite facilities are a real bonus. It is great being able to be in quiet (we had it to outselves on one night) campsite with a basic but flat field (with NO stones) surrounded by hills and fells, but with a clean shower and hot running water for washing the dishes! Having the containers for camping fires and BBQs is also a bonus. The only downside is the road noise from a nearby A road, but you can easily ignore it. It does mean it is reallly easy to get to. We will be heading back in a month or so.

We stayed at this camp side weekend 21st May, what a lovely site, location and ground are fabulous, there is a caravan where there is a shower, changing room, sink for washing up and toilet, there is also another toilet down the yard. The facilities are spotless, and Rosie the owner is a lovely lady, you can also have camp fires which are great, we had a brilliant time and will defiantly go back
