I really love Side Farm - this is on the shore of Lake Ullswater at Patterdale, so you can go for a swim if the weather picks up (ha!) or just hang out on their mini-beach. The campsite's a bit slopy and has a stream through the middle, but it's pretty much worth it. The biking round there is bloody excellent as well, really good lakeside routes one way, or off into valleys and mountains the other way. I've biked from that site a few times. You can walk up Helvellyn if you're feeling really energetic, or up over Boredale Hause to Angle Tarn just out the back of the campsite for a littler walk, or get the steamboat to Howtown and do the flattish 5-mile walk back along the lakeside...... ah happy times.....! A lovely base for walking holiday in Th'lakes.

Tranquil surroundings and magnificent views. Choose a pitch carefully as can be a bit on the slant but you are in the Lake District so it's bound to be rocky! Patterdale Hotel close and Travellers Rest Inn also in walking distance. Good base to climb Helvellyn.

I love this place.

Ameneties adequate.

Side Farm is without doubt the best campsite in the Lakes.

Yes the track leading to it is bumpy (no good for caravans) yes there are a few cobwebs in the showers (but it's clean) and yes the site is slopey - but the views alone are worth every bit of it. The walks are fantastic, the atmosphere is super laid back and the owners are really friendly. We keep meaning to try somewhere else but it feels like a betrayal so we go back time and time again - once you've been you'll know what I mean!
