"There are some 300 acres of land allocated to camping. This makes SHELL ISLAND the biggest camp site in the UK and the Biggest Tenting site in Europe. Unfortunately we only have a tent license and therefore cannot accept Caravans or Campervans. Campervans can be accepted if they have a tent for sleeping purposes. It may sound rediculous but then the Vehicle becomes a means of transport !!"
the fantastic Golden Rule!
Campers may not pitch within 20 yds of another tent in the same field unless prior agreement is reached with adjoining campers.

Shell Island is a great campsite for a relaxed few days under canvas. Obay the 20 yard "Golden Rule" and you'll end up having a fabulous time! We are lucky enough to be able to have proper campfires here and there are oportunities for you to meet new friends round the flames!
You can choose from a huge area to camp from wide open spaces with neighbours within shouting distance or more secluded nooks and cranies which afford you more privacy.
During the day the beach is a great place to take the kids or the dogs for a long walk on golden sands before retrning to your tent for the fire and an evening of wine and song - just remember your guitar!
Shell Island we salute you!

Fires allowed as long as raised by stones, right on the beach - you can even camp in the dunes if you fancy. Few rules but the ones they do have are good ie you can not camp within twenty metres of anyone else, there are no silly markled out pitches you just go where you feel and it is really an island - accesable by a causeway at certain times of the day. Its the nearest to wild camping i have found. from Happy Camper Ema. Thank you!

If you go here make sure you explore and select your pitch do not do like we did 1st time and pitch too close to the main club house etc. go further afield you will have a much nicer experience. I just love going to sleep lulled by the sound of the sea.

If you want a good camping experience DO NOT GO TO SHELL ISLAND It is terrible. The dregs of society go there. I have had to leave early after a terrible experience. Boom boom boom all the time from overloud music systems (why oh why do you need to listen to drum and base so loudly at 9 in the morning). F'ing this and that from your naighbours, pit bulls everywhere, kids charging around on those small motorbikes, filthy horrible toilets, especially the portaloos. We even had the joy of our neighbour vomitting loudly at 10 in the morning. Dregs of society now pollute this once very pleasant site. Don't go

We had the most wonderful time at Shell Island in August, and never would have known about it if not for your site!! The only slight disappointment was in our choice of pitch, when we arrived we were advised not to pitch in teh dunes as the weather was really bad. Being first timers there, we followed that advice and camped in the fields. This was great initially but got very busy and we didn't have the secluded-ness that we love!! The weather the rest of the week was great, and now that we know the site we'd definately go to the dunes or one of the quieter bits next time!! It didn't spoil a lovely holiday though, and I thought I'd enclose a couple of my favourite pictures!! Am eagerly looking at campsites for next year! Best Wishes to you all, Karen xx

Shell Island is fantastic. We are fairly new to camping and we found this place had everything you needed for a great family weekend. Look around for a good site. We camped near the sand dunes and our toddler and pre-schooler loved the beach and exploring the dunes at sunset. Spent hours running around with kites and chasing dogs and it was great to sit in front of a campfire with hot chocolate in the evenings. It can get very windy , and need to bed tent down with rocks near the sandy areas. A fantastic weekend and the people are really friendly too. They have a really good camp shop with fire pits and quality gear. The Canteen food is a bit basic, but the breakfast is good. There is also a nice play/area for the kids and loads of room for them to wander safely. Nearby Barmouth is lovely for a day out. This is now our favourite campsite.

shell island, you've got to love it. Basic as it gets with all the smell and sounds of the countryside and the towns. If you've watched 'Shameless" its that but under canvas. To all the people who want privacy and wilderness dont go, to the rest who want a great british camping weekend its BLOODY GREAT. All the tat of the seaside and freedom of the outdoors. Its like the last day of school when your allowed to run amuck and go on everything in the gym. Got no pics yet but will have after this weekend. Have a burger, have a can and wee on the grass, BLISS.
