"Situated in the heart of the Duddon Valley with breathtaking views of the fells, the site is on the doorstep of a labyrinth of footpaths, leading to a variety of Lakeland fells and villages. A few minutes' walk across the fields is the ancient Walna Scar track, taking you to Dow Crag and Coniston's classic peak, the Old Man, with views out across Coniston Water en route. Walkers and climbers alike will enjoy the site's closeness to Wallowbarrow gorge and crags. The grassy site offers privacy through the natural craggy landscape, and provides toilet and basic washing facilities. The local pub is a pleasant 10-minute walk from the site, where good food and refreshment can be purchased"

Wee yellow tent 2007-04-26
Such a perfect campsie for my annual birthday camping trip. Will have a hard time finding somewhere to live up to it for this years trip. Off the beaten track, a trecherous (and stunning) journey along the Wrynose Pass -infamous with the locals. Beautiful site. Craggy outcrops and trees break it up so you feel you have your own space. This combined with chilled out farmers meant we were able to continue the silliness into the wee small hours without disturbing anyone. Enjoy.

Just got back from my first camping trip of the year to Turner Hall farm... was lovely. Found a lovely little corner to pitch my tent in and it felt like we were the only ones around! Brilliant walking and views...and lovely, clean, hot showers!

Just had my first camping ever experience here and thought I would share my experience with other happy campers : )

Drove here in the glorious Friday evening sunshine, along the endorphin-raising Wrynose Pass, and pitched up. Feels really remote and scenery is really beautiful - was not disappointed! If you love walking, you will love it. If you love gazing at mother’s nature finery, you will also love it.

Had our dinner in candlelight (they do allow campfires BTW, which we did not do - you can buy kindling at Ulpha post office 3 miles down the road) with a bottle of wine and a few beers. Very relaxing and romantic. Felt quite giddy with excitement!

Woke up the next morning to the sound of sheep baaing. Very cute. However, alas, the sunshine didn’t last. Next day’s weather turned very rainy and windy, which made it much more difficult. Esp since our spot was very much in an open field. Would recommend more sheltered area (e.g. 2nd field) to protect from the elements. After trying to secure the tent that had somehow turned into a kite in the gusts of wind, we decided to be truly hardcore and stay the night.

Pub close by (Newfield Inn) has lovely atmosphere and food. Def recommend. Totally yummy homemade spinach and ricotta cheese dish. Delicious!

Used the facilities which were clean and modern. Showers £1 for 3 mins. Don’t forget your pound coins! Good pressure and clean facilities. Farm owners are also nice and friendly.

All in all, I would definitely recommend Turner Hall Farm. Great to get away from it all, but without sacrificing on nice warm showers! Would return – hopefully next time the weather will be less miserable.

Go!

I stayed at Turner Hall this Bank Holiday, 23/05/09

It was a great campsite, secluded pitches even on a busy weekend. But alas, NO CAMP FIRES are now allowed!! It would have been my favorite camp of all time if it were not for this. The new shower block was great, hot water & very clean. Local pub did great food & ales.

We stayed here 29 - 31st May 2009 specifically after seeing on The Happy Campers website that it allows campfires so were quite dismayed on arrival to see signs everywhere saying No Fires. However some people did have fires and they don't seem to too strict on the rule as long as you are sensible and use proper fire pits etc. Otherwise a beautiful site, easy walking distance to lovely local pub serving good food, toilets and showers not usually too busy despite site being rather busy. Lovely, friendly owners and mobile cafe that sells fantastic hot chocolate! Great for walking in the Duddon Valley.

Camped there weekend 10th July, did not arrive till nearly 9:00p.m and found it to be busy. The only complaint about the site is that there is not a lot of car park space and thus a lot of cars are parked on highly desirable pitches, my son & I parked on what bit of gravel there was and camped in front of the car on a thin strip of very long grass! My otrher compalint concerns the pub, The Newfield Inn. I had read it was a friendly pub etc. However, after a 2&1/2 hr drive we came to the pub at 8:45p.m noticing that they only served meals until 9:00p.m. We requested could we book a table & meal whilst we returned after pitching opur tent only to be told..'sorry no, we are busy and unless you have a table nr we cannot serve you'...bearing in mind this is the only pub/eaterie for miles around and is not blessed with local customers I find it amazing that they would turn down money from a couple of very hungry chaps. We pitched up (eventually) and strolled down to the pub more in hope than expectation of being served any food...alas our fears were confirmed and we had to dine on a bag of dry roasted peanuts..although the barmaid did offer us some dried cakes!!!! One other thing regarding the campsite...they no longer allow camp fires due to inconsiderate campers causing damage, leaving a mess etc etc... thanks a bunch all those who contributed to this and messed it up for the rest of us!!! Well done indeed!!!!

We stayed here and it was very nice. The nature of the site means that even though it was busy (July) we still found a spot that seemed secluded.

Just a note that campfires are NOT allowed even though this site says they are.

The showers and toilets were clean and there is a hot water tap to do your dishes at.

It's all pretty basic but has everything you need really. There is a post office about 2 miles down the road which sells food and essentials.

The site is a great place to start many walks from - we did the walk up the Walna Scar Road and then up Brown Pike, Buck Pike and Dow crag before dropping down to the eastern edge of Seathwaite Tarn and walking along the bridle path back to the campsite (about 8 miles). Great fun.

When you get there just pitch your tent and you pay at around 9am in the morning when someone comes round and wakes you up. THANKS TO JOE_FOX FROM THE HC PEEPS. WE HAVE NOW UPDATED THE CAMPFIRE SITUATION

Enjoyed many a good night on this wonderful campsite. Not too many good pitches as cars tend to take them up. Good clean showers and toilets. Large groups can spoil the serenity of this place. Camp fires are now not allowed at all. I understand from the farmer that many people have complained that expensive tents have been damaged with sparks flying from oversized fires, and at the end of the day he could be liable. I understand this and agree with his decision as many tents now cost hundreds of pounds and are easily damaged. Newfield Inn close by (15 minutes walk). Good beer, food ok but expensive. £4.50 for beans on toast!!!! Can you believe that! All the locals i spoke to were very camper friendly.

Stayed 2009 Aug bank holiday week.

Brilliant place - wonderful views, quiet & peaceful, well priced and away from the 'camper-van brigade'. Plenty of room even at bank holiday.

Dont take any notice of the moaners who complain about the 'lack of pitches' & long grass - the beauty about this place is there ARN'T any formal pitches! - it's a cumbrian field with huge rocks & hummocks & even a stream running through, so what do you expect!.

Pub (Newfield Inn) does get busy for food at weekend or if raining - portions are HUGE - best advise is to get there 6:30 bag a table and have a beer or 2 while you wait. Great place - will be back again soon I hope.
