Had my first trip to Pool Bridge back in September, absolutely loved it, Stan is a real gem and very very helpful, although do try to take your own wood or collect it from the woods as the cost of the wood he supplies is not very good, and it burns through very very quickly! The site is nice and quiet, the showers are excellent, And it's kept clean and tidy, being able to have open fires is a real nice touch and the sound of the river that runs alongside is amazing. Mobile phone reception is non existant, but thats to be expected in a valley! The shops at porlock are well stocked and easily accessible, however watch out for your brakes on those steep hills!!!

Regarding Chris' comment above about collecting wood...from the woods... please don't, cos dead wood is a very important wildlife habitat, and looking at the woods above the campsite, there isn't much left. Thank you :)

Coming around the tiny winding roads up over the rolling hills near the coast, this campsite is certainly not accessible to caravans! Based in a picturesque valley with a babbling stream running through the main drag, Pool Bridge is really one to visit for a quiet, serene and relaxing stay. You can have campfires, though you need to catch the wood keeper at around 7pm and then just kick back and listen to the birds, watch the bats at twilight and have enough space to play music or just listen to the stream. It feels more wild that field based campsites and even has sheep roaming around!

Hi all. Poole Bridge campsite. is a back to nature site I have been going their for over 30 years ,in those days there was just a green hut on the right with a thunder box and a tap, and a high percentage of the campers were hippies . To sit around a campfire totally surrounded buy disigenous trees next to a trout stream that runs right along side the site. "Magic" Today they have built a wash room with WC and showers ,that are heated with gas and some sinks outside to wash your dishes. Pool bridge site lies at the head of the river Vally in horner wood approx 2.5 miles inland from Porlock. The site is only suitable for smallish tents and small camper van as the access is very very narrow steep and twisty. The site is now very busy at weekend and in the school holidays but the Magic still exists. For a long stay it is best to arrive on Tuesday when there is much more of a choice of pitches.as you can not book in advance, Rex

We've been going to Pool Bridge for 17 years now and have just got back from our latest (and last) trip there. Although visually stunning, over the past 3-4 years it has lost a lot of its charm and has become too busy and very crowded. It is pretty well unregulated by its owners, who come along twice daily to clean up the shower blocks and sell (expensive) wood – whilst Sid is a wonderful chap, he doesn’t seem to want to know about any problem ‘campers’. Since the site is unattended, it has a growing reputation as a ‘party’ site and has become increasingly popular amongst people who seem to just want to get drunk on cheap lager, shout, scream and fight all night long – gone are the days when you could guarantee that the only noise you’d hear were the sound of bongo’s and acoustic guitars! Ah well, on to pastures new…

Absolutley LOVED our time here......the open fires warmed us in the evenings as the children played on rope swings over the river....we walked upstream through heavenly green spaces and met similar spirited campers. Even when the site became busy, it was not crowded, but was really really comfortable.....three nights was not enough!

The campsite was rather wet due to a rain storm the night before. the Pitches are quite undulated so therefore its difficult to find a spot where the water wont dam up under your tent , or where the thee ground is not to soggy. There weren't many other campers so we were abole to find a good spot but not next to a campfire spot. You can only have a campfire 3m away from the river. The ablution facilities are very basic and could do with an update. The standard of the cleaning is not that great either. I was also dissapointed to see alot of litter left around the campsite. The Campsite is very secluded and is very well shelterd from the winds. It is well off the beaten track and is very quiet. For those techies among you there is no mobile phone signal.
