We arrived on a very wet and windy friday night in March, with the determination not to let the bad weather affect us. We pitched up where ever we wanted (or was more suitable) and the owner came to find us to see how we were getting on and to sort out when we would be able to go to the office and see her. Once the tent was up, we headed over to the very clean and very warm main building to pay. At the main building were the toilets, showers, disabled facilities, campers kitchen, recycling, washing up areas, drinking water and laundry. Showers are free, with heated floor for the ladies, and the laundry room isn't too expensive but very essential when it's cold and wet outside. Location of the site is easy to find and for campers, you can stay right on the river bank with your camp fire going. so picturesque. This site is going to become a regular for us now that we have found it.

We have stayed at this campsite several times, and it is idyllic! Camping doesn’t get much better - the site is very safe and the children are freed to play by day in the river and at night everyone huddles around the campfire. Pitches are generous and facilities are always immaculately clean. The owners are often onsite and very helpful, they were extremely effective in ensuring a happy stay and swiftly removed some more troublesome campers from the site. Stayed for a week in possibly some of the worst weather ever, but still loved the site and the surrounding area - Will definitely be returning again!!

My girlfriend and I have just returned from a wonderful 3 days at Dolgamedd. This site is really easy to find, not far from the main road and the first impressions are great, with a well kept facility building and very friendly and helpful staff. Camping is perfect as you can pitch your tent wherever you like, with the best place being by the river. Our tent was just above the bank, then there are plenty of picnic tables to use (a really good idea) and we had our campfire between them and the river. You can buy wood from the reception which costs £5 for a wheelbarrow full, lots of the pieces are large so if you have an axe, bring it! The river is beautiful and ideal for cooling down. One thing you must do is walk upstream, walk to the far end of the static caravans by the road but the go through the gate and keep going for a bit, the river gets even more stunning and dramatic.
One thing i will say about the site is little bits of litter, don't take it the wrong way; it is not a messy site, but some people leave small things on the grass which are not hard to pick up before they leave or just throw them in your campfire! However, don't take my opinions too seriously, go and see for yourself, its certainly the best place we have ever camped!

Out of 7 sites we stayed at in Wales this was our favorite! The photo's do not really do it justice!
We checked in at reception and bought 3 bags of wood for a fiver! We then headed down to the river as there were a couple of spare places, you can't book so its a first come basis! There are wooden picnic benches near most spots which made a nice change, there are also fire rings set up from stones. The site seems really social and everyone was really friendly. We spent our first night joining someone else's fire and chatting the night night away!
Facilities are really good and clean, toilets and free showers, a kitchen area which is fully equiped with freezers for ice packs and a laundry room too!
Close by is Coed y Brenin for biking, Barmouth is a short drive away for the beach and there is loads of walks around. We got talking to our neighbours who have been going there for about 20yrs so they must be doing something right! We will be going back to Dolgamedd in the near future!!!!
