Llyn Gwynant is the nature lovers' campsite in the very heart of Snowdonia. The campsite lies below Snowdon in the most beautiful valley in Wales. It is an ideal base for walking, swimming and other adventure activities. You can walk up Snowdon directly from the site. Alternatively you can simply enjoy natural beauty and quiet beside the lake or river, relaxing by your own camp fire. No radios are allowed, recycling is required and respect for the land and for others is essential. Bookings are not needed for families or individuals, but groups of 20 can reserve part of the site.

One of my wife’s friend’s husband and myself for the last couple of years have been taking the kids away for a camping experience in the Easter break, while the wives are busy earning the readies. I know it’s a bit early in the season, but we make sure we are well and truly equipped with sleeping bags and extra duvets for the cold nights, + it tends to be a bit more of a wilderness experience with far less people around. We take twice as many clothes as the children need and still end up having to dry out water filled wellies and mud encrusted trousers, still once they’ve put them on again they’re as good as new, they may walk with straight legs for 5 minutes but hey that’s camping. We’ve been going to Nant Gwynant campsite in the heart of Snowdonia. The campsite even has showers and toilets! which is a bonus with the young ones, I think it can get pretty busy but if you choose off peak time you can strike it lucky, we pitched right beside the river bank, and the kids were in and out of the water even though it certainly made you wince. Campsite allows fires (although the wood has to be purchased on site) and we all had a fantastic time. thanks to Duncan for telling us about this lovely campsite!

The lake shore at the front of the campsite is for recreational use of all campers. No camping or vehicles are allowed between the lake and a row of white marker posts. Campers who want a more secluded experience can park their cars at the back of Pen Helen and walk to Bridge field. Others can simply drive to their camping area of choice

Pen Helen: The most popular field for camping is bordered by the lake and river. This is for public camping where tents and cars are allowed. Up to 10 caravans are allowed at the edge under the trees that separate this field from Ddôl Fawr

Bridge field: is beyond Pen Helen, bordered by the river. This area is for tents only, no cars allowed. Parking is available at the back of Pen Helen

Ddôl Fawr (Large meadow): the back field beside Bridge field where vehicles are allowed, but not caravans

Ddôl Fach (Small meadow):a sheltered area close to the toilet block, where vehicles are allowed but not caravans

Cae Hendre: Also known as "the hollow" this field lies below the barns. This is not on the public campsite but is an area reserved for large groups, who may optionally choose to hire the barns as well. No caravans or vehicles allowed

and now for something a little different... If you love privacy, the natural environment and like to have a roof over your head, but don't require 5 star accommodation, then the Nutshell caravan could be the place for you. Nutshell can accommodate up to 4 people, and lies in a secluded woodland area with magnificent views over the lake. looks lovely doesnt it! more info on their website

I've been to camp Llyn Gwynant twice with our local youth club with Bill king. I think its great that Llyn Gwynant is open for us as it keeps youngsters out of trouble and helps them work in a team. I loved every minute of llyn gwynant and i would love to go again. Bill King took us on night walks and looked after us. Thank you for letting him book the spaces for the week as it means a great deal for some of us who don't get to experience it usually it makes a difference !!! thank you for your time. cherry-lee
