'This small quiet campsite lies along the banks of the river Ystwyth. It is situated on the mountain road between Rhayader and Cwmystwyth amidst mountains scenery. Relax in the peace and quiet of this valley of outstanding natural beauty. Our facilities are of a high standard and consist of ladies and gents toilets, hot and cold water, shower, washroom, electricity hook ups, barbecues, picnic tables, also swings and an embankment slide. Tyllwyd has been the home of the Raw family since 1825. The 1st James Raw moved here from Melbeck in Yorkshire, and was Captain of the Cwmystwyth Lead Mine for 40 years, indeed the uppermost western adit was called after him - the Raws' Adit. Tyllwyd is an open hill sheep farm of approx. 708 hectares rising from 830 to 1870 ft above sea level. Walkers have access to the high moorland, or the less ambitious may enjoy a tranquil walk along the old water leat. This leat was created in 1876, to carry water from the river Ystwyth to the Cwmystwyth Lead mine, in order to drive the crushing and jigging wheels, at the mine. The walk takes you through a variety of habitats along the side of Yr Allt, and overlooking the river. Yr Allt is home to a hefted flock of Welsh mountain sheep and some rare uplands birds. Ravens, buzzards, red kites, kestrels and peregrine falcons hunt along this hillside, but you may also encounter some swallows, pied wagtails, spotte flycatchers, redstarts, warblers, chaffinches and tree creepers in the woodland below, on the first part of the walk. Looking down on to the river you may see a heron or a goosander. There are many more interesting local walks.'

"Overlooking nearby Aber-porth and Cardigan Bay beyond, clear evenings will afford views of distant Lleyn Peninsula and Snowdon in North Wales.

Lie in bed listening to the crackling campfire whilst watching a million pinsharp stars winking in a night sky unpolluted by street lights or neon strips. On still nights breaking waves and the boom of the swell in caves are plainly to be heard. Cooking on an open fire is easy, and suitable utensils are provided"
